Fitness for Kids

Let’s face it – getting kids to go outside and exercise is not a simply task. Most kids would rather stay home and watch television or play video games than head outdoors to participate in any activity. Still, it is crucial that your children remain as active as possible at all times. Are you wondering how this is possible? Well, it may be easier than you think.

First things first – if you child does not like to play team sports, don’t push them into it. Some children simply don’t enjoy participating in organized sports, and this is ok. Now, let’s talk about how to get your child moving every day. Activity is really a simple thing to do. You see, all you have to do is assign your child some daily chores that will get their bodies in motion. For example, if your child has to walk the dog nightly, they will be forced to walk around the block. While this is a good start, it is still not enough. You can also encourage your child to go outside and play by simply telling them that they must stay outside for one hour every other day. At first, they may seem reluctant, but after awhile they will take to their bikes, hockey sticks, roller blades, and other forms of sports equipment.

Additionally, it is important that you set an example for your child by keeping active yourself. If your children notice that you sit around the house all day long, they will begin to mimic your behaviour. Instead, try to go for a walk or run with your child, get out there and walk to the store, and remember that you can play baseball or soccer with your child in the park too. See how easy it can be to help your child remain active? All it takes is a bit of ingenuity and a lot of influence.
