Healthy Eating for Kids

The best way to teach a child healthy eating habits is to eat healthy yourself. If you have problems getting your children to do that, it's probably because you have not done so in the past. This makes it harder to help them get better, but not impossible so long as you practice self discipline. Unhealthy predispositions are partly innate to the human body and partly bred by habit. Humans like unrefined sugars, but they can also maintain good taste for healthy food so long as they are exposed to it over a long period of time.

The simplest unhealthy items to cut out of the diet are soft drinks of all kinds. Sugary drinks - even if they say that they're loaded with vitamins - are just plain unhealthy. You don't need to use bottled water for health or taste - a cheap water filter is sufficient if you are afraid of your tap water. Stop buying soda if you want your children to eat healthily. It'll also help their dental health significantly.

Particularly if your children are older, one good way to make sure that they eat well is to stop giving them regular allowances. If they have to worry about their own spending money, they're less likely to waste it on unhealthy food. Stay healthy yourself and you'll set standards for your children to look up to. If it's considered alright to be unhealthy in your own family, it's unreasonable and ineffective to hold your children to a different standard.
