How Diet and Exercise Affect Your Colon

It has been proven that exercise can reduce the risk of colon cancer by at least a third. That is a significant statement to take notice. A study was done by Dr. Anne McTiernan of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. This study included volunteers from the results of their colonoscopies. The program outlined exercise for at least two hours per week for a year. The results indicated that some of the areas that had a potential to turn into polyps or colon cancer were normal after the study.
 
Vegetables like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage are being linked to help suppress cancer generating cells. Eating vegetables with fewer calories can also help in weight reduction. 
 
Eating meat sparingly is recommended for better colon cleansing. Meat also contains fat that could lead to heart disease if overindulged. There are many choices for protein replacements like legumes and soy products. Watching your portion size will let you enjoy the foods you love and have a healthier you. 
 

It is recommended that all men and women are affected by colon cancer equally and should have a test called a colonoscopy after the age of 50. If pre-cancerous polyps are found, they can be removed easily before turning to cancer. If the colonoscopy results are good, then it is recommended to repeat the test every 10 years.
